Ingatestone & Fryerning II v Springfield Cricket Club Saturday III on Sat 16 Jun 2012 at 13:30
Springfield Cricket Club Won 207 Runs

Match report On the back of 2 comprehensive victories, the 3s had planned to revert to the former skipper Kennedy, however Nice was recalled at the 11th hour to lead a strong looking team, looking to extend the unbeaten run. Winning the toss on a surprisingly flat looking deck, he had no hesitation in batting first. Donegan, on debut for the 3s, and Chalk were sent out to dispose of the new ball, with the tempting target of the pond on the 30m boundary. And dispose of it Donegan did, blasting his way to a cracking 87 from 65 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. Seeing his opening partner going off at such speed, Chalk decided to be generous to the opposition, and refused to hit the ball off the square. After seeing Aslam and Vince, both hit out and get out, Chalk decided that he couldn’t afford to buy another jug this season, and so conveniently got bowled on 48. Kennedy strolled out, received his customary ”ball of the day”, and trotted back to the pavilion. Troy held the tail together, batting in his usual frantic manner, and the team finished on a good looking total of 264 – 9.
With the threat of another debutant Attwell being ready to replace any lacklustre opening bowling, Butt and Mean were extremely motivated to repeat their performances from the previous 2 weeks. Swapping roles from the previous week, Butt became the destroyer in his spell of 8 – 2 – 12 – 5, producing some balls that were unplayable at a much higher level, with Mean the support act at the other end taking 2. With the opposition 19 – 8, newcomer Attwell and Chalk were turned to, and struggled to find a breakthrough against the numbers 9 and 10 (who should have batted top 4 in the opinion of most of the field). It was then left to oldtimer Vince to show the young boys how it’s done, with Nice, showing true commitment to the team, taking a blinder to break the partnership, injuring himself slightly in the process. 2 balls later and it was all over, with Donegan taking a very contrasting catch, being surprised at how much time he had to take it, despite being all of 5 yards from the bat.
So producing one of the largest Springfield Saturday victories in memory, the 3s rolled on. MOTM – Butt, self-explanatory, but mention for Donegan for a brisk 87 on debut.
