Springfield Cricket Club Saturday I v Hatfield Peverel on Sat 26 May 2012 at 13:30
Springfield Cricket Club Won 66 Runs
Match report
Getting out of the Clarky warm-up early has brought a new found love for the simple task of flipping a coin at the start of a match and in sweltering conditions a third toss in a row was won and before Peverals captain Rob could swear at his misfortune we were in the changing rooms strapping our pads on.
Once again Clarky and Curtis started well and at 97 -2 we were well placed for a big total on what appeared a good pitch, keeping a bit low but very similar to Corra pitches of 10 years ago and more, however this is when the game went into overdrive. In the next 31 overs 18 wickets fell for just 90 runs, yes there was some average batting but the bowling was superb from both sides, firstly Wild and Wager ripped through us with 5 for apiece leaving us well short on 127 all out. Then Peverals innings got of to the worst possible start with a run out, this galvanized us and with Ben and Charlie bowling tightly wickets began to fall.
It was the introduction of Ali that proved to be decisive, his swinging yorkers proving unplayable to one and all and finishing with the match winning figures of 6-9 off 7, fantastic stuff mate.
The magnificent never say die attitude shown by everyone was the key to this victory, and credit to the Peveral guys for sticking around for a few beers although they must have been bitterly disappointed.
Keep it up fellas.
