Springfield Cricket Club's Monthly Round Up
Well... where did June disappear to?!
It's been another packed month at Springfield with cricket being played almost every day of the week, plenty of wins, a few narrow defeats and lots of moments worth celebrating.
Our Saturday sides had a strong month, picking up some brilliant victories across the club. The 1st XI continue to have a mixed season, with plenty of positives across the side. They currently sit in 6th position. The 2nd XI are flying at the top of the Premier Division of the T-Rippon, only suffering one defeat all season. A big second half of the season and we could be celebrating some silverware! The 3s and 4s unfortunately continue to struggle, there are shoots of growth developing though and thankfully both teams remain outside of the dreaded drop zone. The 5s are performing superbly, with a very young side interspersed with some oldies. Mid table for them still, with some excellent performances in the month of June.
The Women's team continued to grow from strength to strength, playing their first hardball fixtures in the Elev8 League and showing exactly how far they've come. There were some incredibly competitive performances along the way, and although they finished June with a tough defeat to Chappel & Wakes Colne, Lisa Eaton signed off her final Springfield appearance with a brilliant Player of the Match performance - a fitting way to end her time at the club.
Our T20 XI provided plenty of entertainment too, progressing in the cup before finishing the month with a convincing win over Hatfield Peverel, proving they're always worth watching on a summer evening.
It wasn't just the seniors doing the business either. Our junior section continued to make us proud, with the Under 10s picking up victories over Broomfield and some fantastic individual performances throughout the month. The Under 12s battled hard in the Brian Taylor Cup and, while it wasn't to be this time, there was plenty to be positive about. We also welcomed the launch of our Friday night Girls' training sessions, another exciting step forward for the club and now have 30 girls ranging in age from 4 to 11.
Sunday cricket continued to deliver as well. The Sunday XI picked up a brilliant 12-run win over Canvey Kingfishers, with Nilesh Bhootra starring with 35 runs and three wickets to earn Player of the Match. We also celebrated a special milestone as one of our young players, Rishi Sankararaman, claimed his first senior five-wicket haul - hopefully the first of many!
Of course, June wasn't all about results. The club was busy every week with training, junior cricket, Friday evenings on the patio, plenty of laughs and making the most of the sunshine that just didn't seem to leave us all month.
A huge thank you to every player, coach, volunteer, umpire, scorer, supporter and sponsor who helps make Springfield such a great place to be every week.
Here's to an even bigger July, a turn in fortune, and shooting up the tables! 💚🏏
