Springfield Cricket Club News story

Ken Etheridge

15 Jun 2020

Sadly we have to announce the passing of one of the clubs founder members, Ken Etheridge. Ken has been a integral part of the history and growth of the club since its inception and Springfield Cricket Club owe him, and his family, a massive debt of gratitude for all he has done. Ken Godridge, a close, long and dear friend has kindly penned the following words, and we as a club send our condolences and prayers to the Etheridge family.

Ken moved to his new home in Springfield in 1959. He lived next door to Allan Ridgway. He became a member at the Founder Members meeting in 1960, Ken thought forming a Cricket Club was a great idea and though he had never played cricket became a very active member. He had his own Engineering Business where he supplied office support ie Typing. Photocopying

He attended every meeting of which he contributed in every way including delivering flyers around the estate looking for new members and served on our Committee  for many years. Then as the years went by and totally free of charge he started to produce the superb array of awards for the Club which today are the finest collection of awards any club has

In all Ken personally made in his garage 10 awards for the club. His superb skill was demonstrated further with  most recent Anniversary Awards that stand proudly in our Clubhouse today. Ken was a superb Club Member one of our finest, he was also a very Brave Hero indeed being a D.Day veteran

Rest in peace my Old Friend we will really miss you. Truly a really lovely man.. Ken Godridge
