Springfield Cricket Club Saturday II v Aythorpe Roding on Sat 21 May 2016 at 1pm
Springfield Cricket Club Won 8 wickets
Match report
It was a cloudy day at the corra which influenced captain Frost’s decision to bowl. Springfield were off to a shaky start with the first over being expensive. Bell struck first with the wicket of Blackman who looped the ball up to I. Powell. Soon after Bell struck again with an outswinger forcing P. Gravatt to top edge the ball back to him for a low catch which eventually stuck. The Aythorpe Roding batsman struggled to get the ball off the square due to the tight bowling from the opening bowlers which lead to another wicket falling. This time it was I. Powell who trapped S. Gravatt LBW leaving I. Powell with figures of 1-43 from 7 overs. A. Tyler was bowling beautifully which was rewarded with a wicket. A great inswinger cleaning up Eaton leaving him with 1-27 off of 8 overs.Frost came on to replace I. Powell and the skipper kept things tight at his end with figures of 1-22 off of his allotted 10 overs with his wicket coming from an LBW. Bell struck for a third time with the ball being sliced up in the air to an alert T. Nice who took the catch with Bell finishing with figures of 3-11 from 8 overs. A bit off fight was shown from Aythorpe’s Cubberleg who scored 34 but was eventually cleaned up by O. Prudence who finished with figures of 3-17 from 2.3 overs. Aythorpe finished proceedings with a seemingly under par 137 with the the last of the Springfield bowlers S. Brown picking up 1-24 off of 4 overs.
Springfield were confident going into the tea break and came out after chasing 137 with an extra 5 overs coming from the excellent Springfield bowling display dismissing the Aythorpe Roding batsman after just 39.3 overs. O. Prudence and M. Hudson were off to a slightly shaky start with Hudson being dismissed LBW after a cracking shot just two balls before. Skipper A. Frost steadied the innings with O. Prudence batting nicely at the other end. A. Frost was dismissed for 19. C. Prudence arrived at the crease with his younger brother Ollie batting excellently getting to a much needed 50 and therefore only 49 was required. C. Prudence scored a brisk 26 and O. Prudence finishing with a fantastic 68 not out which saw Springfield over the line in just over 32 overs which sees Springfield pick up their 2nd win in division 1 and climb up to 5th in the table.
