Match report
Match Report – Bentley Home 23rd May 2015
On what looked like early in the morning being a miserable cold day we welcomed table topping Bentley to the corra, the opposition were 3 from 3 and had made a great start to the season.
Having lost our two previous games an early morning net and some catching practice was in order (for all the side apart from Mr Singh who rocked up at 12.30….AGAIN) On looking at the wicket on my walk from the rugby club end it looked in good nick, hard but with a bit of something in it for the bowlers, a little chat with a couple of top order batsman, decision decided if we win it we will bat and back ourselves to get back into form, toss won and all I can say from here is simply WOW.
Lats and Charles opening the batting confidence personified from ball one, with Charles looking in good form hitting a rocket through the covers before falling to a good Yorker from Phil Coleman for 19, but we had a start and we were up and running, enter the crease Manpreet Singh whom after missing the High Roding game due to International duty (or so he said we have since found out it was Jaz’s birthday trip to the coast) was keen to get back to form, well I could have done another 50 laps of the pitch and watched Lats and Mani bat all day, the bowling attack is one of the best in the league and was just destroyed, Lats eventually falling caught at mid wicket for a brilliant 101 from 86 balls and Mani 141 off 97 balls it was batting at its best, just when the opposition thought there would be some letup Jimmy and Chay came in and basically continued to move the scoreboard along at a phenomenal rate with Jimmy ending on 51no from only 26 balls and Chay after hitting his first ball for 6 ending on 20 from 7 balls the innings ending on 362-3 which I am told is 2 shy of the club record….More gym work maybe fellas?
A big thanks to Mrs Vince for the tea and off in to the field we strode, the place was buzzing.
Sven and Mazza (once we pointed out that Pether was still left handed) bowled well without much luck, Parmenter who had already score 3 centuries in the season thus far caught at slip by Jimmy and then Coleman hitting one to Clarky at extra cover the ball after watching the field change two big wickets but Bentley to their credit have a lot of dangerous and talented cricketers so despite minds turning to the Mazza stag in Magalluf it was crucial we stayed focused on the job in hand, Pether gloved behind caught Hudders off Mazza (3/33) after looking well set, Charles came into the attack and bowled sharp although partnerships still had to be broken and Johnson was working the ball all around the ground and was proving difficult to dismiss until Si hit him on the toe full and straight for a well made 40, Whiteley hit a couple of massive 6’s which could have in fact been 12’s but once he skied one to myself (take the job on yourself then you only have yourself to blame!) we were nearly home, a little bit of finger dancing starting to appear which the skipper wasn’t too happy about but we wrapped up the tail with Charlie getting a couple myself three and one a piece for Chay and Simon as the innings closed at 206 in the 35th over.
I asked for a response and this was the answer I wanted and expected, I have played cricket a long time and never seen a batting display like it, well done boys and let’s put it up Gorsebrook tomorrow.
