Chelmsford CC parkie found drunk outside pavilion and no pitch marked out or cut.
Using their wit and inventiveness the two teams marked out the pitch in the middle of the soggy square using four size ten boots, a stump for a straight line and the bail the mark the crease. Game on!
The weather held and on a difficult pitch with a very slow outfield Wickham were asked to bat (I couldn’t change that in my first game!)
Debutant Aatir Mir grabbed 3, new skipper added 2 more (including the top scorer I might add) and the innings was closed on 80 all out
Confidence was knocked early on in the Springfield innings when Nightingale and Carr went early. But then a solid and careful partnership between Hassan and Gooday steady the ship until the next rain break. With only 29 runs left to get 4 quick wickets were lost for the addition of only 8 runs. Blundellski and Hassan then took control and saw us through for a win by 4 wickets.
Much to the relief of the next man in (me!)
