Springfield Cricket Club Sunday II v E4 on Sun 27 May 2012 at 14:00
Springfield Cricket Club Lost 137 runs

Match report A gallant draw on any other day!
Unfortunately it was a timed game so was in fact a gallant defeat!
With our planned opponents Stock pulling out during the week we had again to get an emergency fixture or waste a beautiful weekend and thanks for E4 for stepping in, even if they were a bit strong for us! They made a hard day bearable!
After winning the toss E4 were asked to bat and got of to a flying start and despite a fantastic but ultimately unrewarded spell from Bingham E4 were 120 odd for 1 after 15 overs and the first drinks break.
Welshman, with a natty bit of shin work, managed to run out their star bat off his own bowling, returning an 8 over spell of 8-0-27-2 this in amongst some heavy scoring from the other end.
Springfield kept their heads up against the superior team and worked hard to keep the brakes on and avoid what at one point look an inevitable 300+ score. Aided by a fine day with the gloves where Carr took 3 excellent catches. Somewhat safer hands, it has to be said, than the returning vetran Geoff Roberts, who broke the cardinal sin of bowlers and dropped a dolly of his own bowling!
A fine spell of spin bowling from Southwell "restricted" the visitors in the final overs and eventually saw the final wicket fall at 253 in the last over. A well deserved closure after hard work in the field in the baking heat.
Springfield’s innings have started better, however!
Carr, Welshman and Hassam departing without bothering "Bill", then a steady and productive innings from Gooday assisted by Bingham and debutant Scoggings pushed the score to respectability.
Nightingale then made it 4 ducks before a faint edge saw captain Durrant shoulder arms for 4. Southwell and Blundell saw us to the end of the 40 overs way short of the target but at least another confidence boost by not being bowled out.
As the title says, on any other weekend, a courageous draw.
Well done all.
And the captains Man of the Match award goes to....
Martin possibly for his 6 wickets and excellent control, or Geoff for his juggling show, but for his all round performance with ball bat and shin it goes to James Welshman who takes a 1-0 lead in the inaugural MoM standings!!!!
