Galleywood II v Springfield Cricket Club Saturday IV on Sat 28 Jul 2012 at 13:30
Springfield Cricket Club Won 7 Wickets
Match report
At last, with warm sunshine on our backs, we were able to look forward to a cricket match on a firm track and without the threat of rain.
Galleywod clearly relished the ideal conditions too, and despite the loss of an early wicket they progressed to 111 before the next batsman was returned to the pavillion and with Mike Singh going well a substantial score was on the cards. However, Nelson proved unlucky for the home team, and with Singh gone for a stylish 65 wickets tumbled before the eigth wicket pair stood firm whilst adding 66 to close the inoings at 184.
A wicket apiece for Chay and Russ and a nap hand for Martin reflected well on a good effort in the field to set up a four-an-over winning target.
Required of our opening partnership was a solid start, and Fran {59} and Tom {15} duly obliged. At the fall of Tom, and with the strike bowlers replaced, Matt Cook strode majestically to the wicket to ensure the run rate was maintained scoring 77 in the process.
Then, with Matt out lbw, and just a few runs required to win from the remaining five overs, enter Chay to lift the ball over the mid wicket boundary for a six to win a very competitive and sporting encounter by seven wickets.
It's Wickham away at Beauleigh Park next week, and on current form a tough test awaits.
