Match report Saturday 2nd May v Little Baddow.
So finally after much anticipation the first game of a new T Rippon season was upon us as we hosted Little Baddow at the Corra (twinned with Siberia).
With just Wasim missing we fielded a strong side looking to carry on the momentum of last years fantastic run and on losing the toss were inserted on a decent looking wicket.
After a few loose shots we were soon in trouble at 30 odd for 3, but Clarky joined Mani, already playing fluently and put together an excellent partnership of around 150ish. Mani going on to complete his first SCC hundred (only waited 8 years mate!!) in magnificent fashion, hitting numerous mighty 6's along the way. Clarky batted sensibly, pulling us out of trouble and eventually succombed for 63. The 2 middle order young guns finished off the innings with some excellent hitting and allowed us to post 254-5, Chays 6 off the last ball to take us to full batting points landing only a few feet short of the top square.
For two reasons we probably entered the field slightly heavier than we left it, firstly a Mrs Clark tea (truly a sight to behold) and secondly the largest display of undershirts/skins/thermals and hand warmers being brandished in one place since the Sochi Olympics!!
Sven got us off to the perfect start trapping their opener bang in front and alongside Mazza took the early wickets that made this game a formality. Only when Harris and Golding were going well did our oppo threaten but an excellent grab at slip by JLJ ended any real chance of it being close. Dancey and Brooksey spinning the last few wickets out in quick succession to wrap up a 119 run win, and save my now frostbitten extremities any further damage.
MoM clearly Mani for his superb maiden and match winning ton.
DOTD apparently me for walking past and being bowled by a ball travelling at about 12mph and telling Mazza (of all people) not to let Mani know he's on 98...forgetting the new scoreboard displays batsmans totals in bright neon lights!!..Wally.
On to Lawford Lane next week.
