Springfield Cricket Club Saturday I v Thurrock on Sat 09 Aug 2014 at 13:00
Springfield Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report On a warm sunny day we welcomed a dangerous Thurrock side to the Corra as we looked to build on our 13 game unbeaten run, the wicket was a little moist after the Friday downfall and would surely improve as the day went on.
Visiting skipper Henry incorrectly called “Tails never fails” and home skipper Brooks invited the visitors to have a bat.
With Ben Marrion away in rehab after being “Danny Mac’d” the previous week Charlie Prudence was the new ball partner for the ultra consistent Andy Ovel, after much debate Prudence was asked to bowl the first over of the game downhill, wind behind, both bowlers were soon in to a good rhythm making run scoring difficult for Thurrock’s opening pair of Henry and Ayub, Oval was unlucky not to have the latter caught early on as a difficult chance at mid on was put down by big Niall (two in two). With around 50 on the board the two youngsters were forced out of the attack having bowled there allocation and on came birthday boy Khalid who despite his youthful looks claims to only be 29…. Chay came on for a two over burst before he was replaced by Brooks who had Ayub trapped in front and then credit to youngster Quereshi who walked after the faintest of nicks behind, this brought the dangerous Laird to the crease to join skipper Henry who now looked pretty settled, the pair were in the process of putting together a good partnership when Dance was introduced to the attack and with good variation (the odd one that pitched and the odd full bunger) had Henry caught in the deep by safe hands Clark, from here in some tight bowling and over aggressive batting the innings finished on 190-8 which looked a par score, 3 wickets a piece from the evergreen Brooks and Dance, and two for Wasim….8 in total for the spinners
After a Mrs Pattison tea the opening partnership of Latimir and Prudence were ready to do battle, reports in the press during the week had seen “superstar” Prudence come under fire for his batting display at Peverel the previous week but despite calls for him to be dropped in place of his brother (Olly) the rising star of Springfield, Charlie kept his place at the top of the order…. The new ball partnership of Sultan and Laird were soon put under pressure and with the scoreboard ticking over nicely the Springfield faithful could sense something special was about to happen, both batsmen were looking assured when Latimer who played well for his 18 was caught behind by Ayub off the bowling of George, a delivery which can only be described as unplayable.. Singh made his way out to the crease hoping to play himself in to the sort of form he displayed against the visitors earlier in the season, by this time Prudence was showing real intent and putting any bad ball to all parts of the ground, Singh started positively and looked in fine touch until he was trapped in front off the bowling of Henry for 35... At this stage the home side needed around 30 to win and Symonds was more than willing to let someone else have a chance to bat, skipper Brooks toyed with the idea but after the antics of Symonds in the field (caught throwing his cap in to the ground after a slower delivery from the captain went wrong) the stalwart of Springfield made his way to the crease and unselfishly allowed Prudence to get to his 100 in style with a couple of massive sixes, from here on in we cruised to our total of 191-2 in only 25.2 overs.
Full credit to the guys, another job well done, 3 games to go and the open top bus parade through Springfield is still on hold as OC’s beat Hatfield Peverel but apparently this weekend is a big one in Chelmsford something to do with the V festival at a guess?
Man of the match won hands down by Charlie, 121 not out was a pleasure to watch, DotD yours truly for bowling THAT ball….. Well done lads
