Springfield Cricket Club Lost 7 wickets

Match report A Tough Test!
First Sunday 2nds 2 Day "Test Match" v Eastons

The first day saw the weather return to winter overnight and bring with it enough water to end the water drought in the South East for ever!. Winning the toss in driving raining and wind returning Skipper for the weekend Russell put Eastons into the cold and wet field.

After a swift start from Blundell the wickets started to tumble. Eventually the brakes where applied a little with the score now at 42 for 8! Bingham showed some resilience and tried to stay with the stand out batter Blundell still carrying his bat. A further cameo from Green saw the innings close on 71 all out. A bleak score on a bleak day. Without the sterling efforts of Blundell, eventually out for 26 and the only one in double figures, it could have been much worse.

Springfield started in the field with some good early control thanks to fine spells from Bingham and Larcher (jnr) restricting the home team to only 7 runs from the first 5 overs on what was still a wet and awkward wicket. Eventually Eastons big hitters got going and ended a cold wet and miserable day ahead by about 60 runs. The horrible day was made better by some excellent hospitality and good humour from our hosts.

The trip to the ground on the second day was dominated by the question if Eastons would declare and put Springfield back in early. As it was they batted on until they reached a lead of 99.

Again Blundell led the way with a barnstorming start to the second innings, reaching 23 of 5 before Larcher fell.
Gooday continued his 3rd Slip catching practice and Eastons remain his bogey team.
At least this time Durrant was definitely out and didn’t need the "nod" from the umpire!
Bingham, Larcher (snr) soon followed but a sturdy 20 from Peter Taylor (on loan from Eastons for the day) gave Blundell the support he needed for a while. Skipper Jones then added a typical Rusty innings of 35 of 29 balls before holing out to a great catch low down
Blundell stood way out again and carried his bat for an unbeaten 67 in a total of 161. Leaving the home team 63 to win,

More tight bowling at the start of the Eastons second innings kept the game interesting as the clock was ticking towards end of play. 2 wickets for Larcher and a spell of 7-2-15-0 from Bingham saw the opponents held back from the inevitable win, at least for a while.
Eventually, with just 20 minutes to go and 3 wickets down Eastons closed of win.

Apart from the weather (and the result) a great weekend, many thanks to Eastons and look forward to the next Test!

Man of the match award this week was easy. With a great spell with the gloves and no byes conceded the award goes to......me!
Actually, it obviously goes to Andy for a great show of batting in both innings keeping some respectability in the result.
Well done Andy
