Eastons 2 Day Test v Springfield Cricket Club Sunday I on Sun 26 Aug 2018 at 11am
Springfield Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report Due to the inevitable rain on Sunday afternoon, former Captain Durrant advised of a 9.45am start time, much to the dismay of junior Prudence who was still necking pink substances late into Saturday evening (I hear it might have been Springfield). Durrant arrived at the club a little before 9am looking not too unlike Jack Nicholson in The Bucket List. His game was done before it started.

Stand in Skipper Gooday, who is now 0/2 in tosses this season, was shocked to see Eastons bat first on a very green wicket. As expected only 26 overs were possible before the heavens opened and play was abandoned for the day on 86-1.

A similar start time occured on Day 2 with both teams wondering how best to contrive a result. Springfield now effectively down to 9 as Gooday went down in the night with an undetermined condition. Having parked declaration bowling as Plan B, Warley and Trim bowled unchanged for 23 overs in the morning session and took 9 wickets for 70 runs.

Blundell and Harvey opened the reply and began steadily. Harvey upping the scoring with a cluster of 4s late in his innings, as he started to listen to his own team mates cries of 'Hit It'. A late flutter of wickets before lunch saw us 4 down with death bed Gooday crawling to the wicket. Springfield couldn't build on the advantage of the morning session and only mustered an 11 run lead. Prudence anchoring with a fluent 50.

In the second innings Eastons came out looking for quick runs looking to make a game of it in the last 20. A consistent falling of wickets saw them rethink the strategy at tea and came back out looking to shut up shop. Eastons subsiding to 127 all out with Southwell plugging an end for 14 overs unchanged.

Requiring 116 in 22 overs, the 'hitters' were sent out early. In this team, they are few and far between. Thankfully Pothen played naturally fast in scoring 40 and Blundell batted through for 31 not out.

Springfield winning by 8 wickets with 3 overs remaining in a late finish.

Alan claiming MOM for 8 wickets in a day (although he also claimed his 6th duck of the season).
