Match report A Day Fit for a President!
First of all a big thank you to North Weald for not only stepping in at very short notice to play us and for the way they played the game but also from saving me from having to do the stump race!
The game itself was played, for a very pleasant change, under bright blue skies and a warm sun. As is the norm North Weald were invited to bat on a pitch that played well but a lush outfield making boundaries a tough shot.
Bingham and Ashurst began in fine form, holding the scoring down for an excellent 10 spell.
This fine bowling was maintained with the return of Roberts to the team and the old skipper showing us how to do it at the other end
Wickets fell regularly but the scoring was still hard to force. A great, and typical innings from Vinnie saw them home with an unbeaten 48 and the total after 40 overs 127 for 7
After a splendid tea, North Weald managed to eek out Neil Carr and Gary early on. Blundell and Southwell took up the reigns and nudged and nurddled the score onwards on what remained a tough pitch to score quickly on. They finally saw us home in the 37 over for a satisfying 8 wicket win
However, North Weald can hold their heads high after a fine performance in the Stump Game, thanks again chaps!!
Man of the Match award this week goes to James Welshman for his excellent contribution with the ball, bat and in the field. Oh and for his 1980's discos icon outfit! Well done Welshman!
