Week 17
Sat, 22 August 2015
With only two games to go in what has been an exciting and close season, Springfield made the journey over to Hatfield for what was the penultimate game of the season on a beautiful summer’s day.
With the addition of a married man back in the squad on an indifferent wicket, the team started the way they always do....the warm up. With some catching, some dropping and some fumbling whilst Chay hits the ball to the moon and back to help us get our catching mitts on, Mr Brooks does as he always does best and lost the toss...we’re in the field.
On a green bowlers wicket Marrion and Ovel opened the proceedings with Mazza getting the breakthrough early doors getting rid of the dangerous Castledine for 0. Bringing Wild to the crease. Phillips got the home side off to a decent start hitting the ball with his short blade Mongoose around the ground, eventually going for 34. With almost 100-2 and Hatfield doing their business the spinners dug in and really made the difference. Removing the captain for 29 off a well reacted catch from Jim. Brooks finishing with figures of 10-5-10-2 showed how well the spinner had swayed the game. Hatfield finishing on 158
After having tea it was now our turn to knock off the 158, a task made a little easier having only 10 fielders in play rather than the 11. It didn’t stop the home team making the break through early on. With Chay hitting the ball to square leg and decided to almost do 2 lengths of the wicket after getting sent back by his partner and much to only his disbelief....Run out!
And with it bringing myself to the crease to bat with Lats only needing 110 to 1000 runs in the calendar season. With the wicket still turning, popping and not being easy for the batsman, Lats and yours truly dug in and one scoring quick and one slow soon managed to get the score within reach. Castledine was the pick of the bowlers, bowling quick and troubling the batsman unfortunately not even he was able to break the 135 partnership. With JLJ continuing on with his incredible form, he got passed yet another 50 for the season and finished 82* and Frost at the other end 43*.
Leaving us with only 1 game left of the season Thurrock will visit the Corra.
