This week saw the 4's back in action at St John's Billericay where a good playing surface had been prepared despite the recent wet weather.

An excellent spell of swing and seam bowling by Anthony saw Springfield off to a fine start. Figures of 3 wickets for 8 runs from 6 overs was a just reward for his admirable pace and control.

A mid order resurgence from Sam Spooner, who hit several sixes in a hard-hitting 32, gave St John's hope for a decent score. However, along came Ben Hitchen who had other ideas and with his flight and guile, plus the safe hands of Ian Bingham who held two catches, he took 4 wickets for 25 runs from 10 overs so restricting the opposition to 70 all out. Special mention should be made with regard to Liam's outstanding performance behind the stumps.

Promoted to opener, Mark Pattison got Springfield's reply off to a careful start with a responsible 19 runs. A flourishing 19 fron Sachin then took us to within 20 of the required total and it was left to Martin with 10 not out and Jack Swan with an excellent 9 not out to see Springfield home.

With six junior players in the team this was an excellent effort against a more experienced and stronger opposition. Well done to every member of the team.
