Springfield Cricket Club Sunday I v High Easter on Sun 17 Jun 2012 at 13:00
Springfield Cricket Club Won 133 Runs

Match report Sunday came again and it was time for the BIG ONE High Easter at home. The rabble started to gather as High Easter turned up and with the orange stumps on full display I went out to do the toss, Yep you guessed it I won it again! We were batting.

I Sent out my two trusty Aussies to get us off to a good start like the previous week, this was short lived as Curtis chipped a drive to cover for a bit of fielding practice, with a slight change in the batting order young Charlie came to the wicket short of runs and confidence he set about getting some time in the middle and in front of the full capacity Fred Lambert Stand. A few more over’s went by as Cadman and Charlie played themselves in hitting the bad ball for four in Charlie’s case and six in Cadman’s as they gradually picked up the scoring rate setting us a good platform. Cadman brought up a 2nd consecutive 50 for the circus and then did the same as Curtis and gave cover some fielding practice, Luke came to the wicket still searching for a Big score on a Sunday this season, he is still searching.

Charlie reached his first 50 of the season in style until he was removed by the High Easter bowling attack this Brought Golden boy to the wicket looking to carry on from his destructive knock the week before, He didn’t disappoint showing everyone why he was known as the golden boy! He faced up to his first ball after going through his routine a little Jig here a little Jig there the ball came down and he nicked it behind GOLDEN BOY DEPARTS FOR A GOLDEN DUCK.

A Couple more wickets fell which brought Jimmy to the wicket who added a very quick and stylish 48 midway through his innings he was joined by Mazza who had been raving about how he was a run machine in the police so I gave him his chance to impress with the bat at 8 he lasted 2 balls and he was back in the hutch where he belongs a few more wickets went which brought Awesome Attwell and Captain Fantastic Chalk to the wicket who put on a very stylish 25 run Partnership to guide the team to 246 for 8 off of our 45 over’s which we knew would be a very difficult target to beat with the bowling attack we had.

Tea was taken and we made our way out to the middle, The Batsmen arrived to face the music they took guard, and waited, it was time for the Prudence and Marrion show. Charlie came steaming in fired up by some inspiring leadership and some idiot who we won’t mention we needed any early break and that’s exactly what we got thanks to a superb catch at midwicket by Southwell High Easter were 1 down with nothing on the score board, this brought their star man to the wicket Faharn after a couple of nice shots and a tight over from Mazza, Charlie came steaming in again and Bowled a Jaffa which Faharn edged caught brilliantly by a diving Williams, GOT HIM! YOU BEAUTY!

Mazza from the other end was bowling like a dream the batsmen couldn’t score a run off him and he was far to good for them to even get an edge, he finally got his reward after a superb catch from Bryn at point. Charlie carried on tearing through the High Easter batting taking 5 wickets in a devasting spell of fast bowling which left High Easter 20 for 6. After the opening pair had finished their spell’s High Easter had recovered to 60 for 6 I turned to the old Fox in the team Jim for a bit of bowling magic to get rid of the small partnership, knowing he had an array of different delivers his first few balls went for a couple of boundaries after he had brushed the dust from his bowling cupboard he went about breaking the partnership his next over claimed the wicket of Bryn’s cricket friend! With a sharp bit of keeping from Williams, His next wicket was a genuine bit of cricket little away swinger caught the edge and the catch taken in the slips by Donegan, High Easter 8 down and almost certainly out of the game.

The evening sun started to go behind the houses and the Fred Lambert Stand started to Empty for evening Wine which left a few fans still sat watching when they started chanting WE WANT TUOHEY WE WANT TUOHEY!!! And as I’m a nice guy I deliver for the crowd, from the old nets end he came steaming in not looking where he was going or where he was bowling, A couple of balls later he wrapped there batsmen on the pads without playing a shot the slips went up NOT OUT! Was the verdict he was convinced if DRS was there he would have claimed another Wicket but it wasn’t to be and he was removed from the attack with immediate effect, from the other end Prime time off spinner caddy was quietly going about his business picking up a wicket in his second over leaving High Easter 9 down.

The Circus were enjoying themselves and enjoying their great performance with 1 wicket needed Luke Southwell was brought into the attack to finish the job off with some, you could call it bowling but it was more on the lines of throwing a hand grenade, The grenade went down and the batsmen slogged it up in the air towards Tom Mean who had come on earlier after Attwell had picked up an injury, it’s not very often you want the worst fielder in the club to replace one of your best but meany being meany had come to watch the match in his white’s hoping for someone not to turn up or at best bring the drinks out and sweep the changing rooms up after the match, so as josh was carried off the pitch he ran out to me shouting “ Im ready skip Im ready let me at em” so with no other choice as he had already run all the way across the square we postioned him out of the way at cow corner where came running in arms out, in the air, looking like he might take his first catch for the club the ball was destined to be caught to finish the game in true circus style and pick up Luke’s first wicket in 8 season’s , but instead he got there didn’t bother putting his hands out to catch it and left it to hit him on the foot USELESS! Luke’s wicket and over were gone. The final wicket was picked up by caddy and the Circus had won to leave us top of the league and still undefeated.
