Purleigh v Springfield Cricket Club Sunday I on Sun 20 May 2012 at 13:00
Springfield Cricket Club Won 2 Wickets
Match report
Purleigh away was an interesting day for the circus and pretty much underlined why we are called the circus, with the myself Injured and unable to play the Task fell to lat’s who was very keen to captain against his boss all a bit weird if you ask me but that’s what lat’s is into. Not much to report really on the Purleigh game we bowled well and ended up bowling them out for 109 with Josh Being the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets and the others chipping in with a couple, Freegard with 37 the only batsmen to put up any fight against the bowlers before Purleigh were bowled out for 109 which we thought would be an easy chase little did we know they had a cunning plan in the shape of the tea lady. Where do I start with the tea there were homemade pasta’s, cakes you name it, it was there this tea can cause a team to crumble under very little pressure as tea came and went and 11 Springfield players evidently heavier we went out to bat, Opening up with Curtis and Cadman who got us off to a good start Curtis smashing the second ball of our innings for 6 12 over’s came and went and a change of umpires were due this is when the carnage happened, Iestyn walked out to take the white jacket, TO BE FAIR, TO BE FAIR, TO BE FAIR he has played enough cricket to know the LBW rule well you would think so after Curtis and been given a send off by a very little man we were 40 for 1 and coasting home until Iestyn started playing god!!!! And started giving what can only be described as 2 of the worst LBW the league has probably ever seen, and then coming off the pitch and explaining why he game the decisions, which he was then asked to go and sit in the corner and think about what he has done, mean while with plenty of batsmen in the hutch Jimmy went off for a shower and to get changed ready to leave and you can all guess what happened next!!!!!!!!. Purleigh brought on their 3 spinners and all hell broke loose losing 3 wickets for 20 runs left us 70 for 5 needing 40 to win we were still confident, lats came to the wicket and hit a couple of lusty blows and then what can only described as the most painful catch I have ever seen happened lats facing his boss who was bowling at the time and giving it some genours air hit a full toss straight down deep squares legs what can only described as ball bag, He was gone 20 to win 3 wickets in hand the old fox himself martin came to the rescue and calm things down we were wrong. 2 more wickets fell and we were 108 for 8 struggling to see where we were going to get the 2 runs from to win the match. The loss of Josh brough Jimmy confident old Jimmy to the wicket who by this time was showered and change ready to leave, you guessed it he had to go out in his tracksuit and bat he knocked off the runs in style and the circus had won again, JUST!!!.
