SAT. 1 MAY

SAT. 1ST against BENTLEY

The league season kicked off for the first team away at Bentley and after being inserted on a wet wicket, 94 all out was never going to be competitive, (losing our last eight players for just 29 runs) only Damian Westwood, with a patient 40 really contributed. Bentley knocked off the runs for four wickets, Andy Barrett took 2-21.

SAT. 2ND against BENTLEY II

Bentley II team were the first visitors to the Corra this year and managed to compile a very competitive 225-8. Saff in his first game as captain was left a bowler or two short by late call ups to the first team. Despite a good knock of 49 from Mortz we were never really in the running and finished 55 runs adrift on 170 all out.

SAT. 3RD against RETTENDON

A very young third team (7 U16's) traveled to Rettendon and managed to restrict their host to 200-9, Ash Tyler 4-45 and Dan Unger 3-46 were the pick of the bowlers. Martin Southwell batted all the way through the innings for 50* but we never got close, finishing 123-8.

SAT. 4TH against MOUNTNESSING

Despite a disappointing start for the other sides, the combination of great age and youth keeps driving the fourth team on to another tense win. After restricting Mountnessing to 127-8, Womble kept it tight at the start (eight overs for six runs) and T.J. ripped out the middle order with 4-42. At 126-6 and needing just two runs to win it all looked easy, but a spell of three wickets for no runs made it nail biting. Womble's heroic knock of two saw the boys home to a one wicket win 128-9.

SAT. 15 MAY

SAT. 1ST against CORRINGHAM & PEGASUS

With a very young first team we traveled to Corringham & Pegasus, and after losing the toss were made to field. Despite missing four front line bowlers, we fielded and bowled brilliantly, to dismiss them for 168, with Moony and Howarth taking three wickets apiece.

We then cruised to 112-1 but despite the skippers defiant 67, the rest of us folded like a pack of cards, to be all out for 164.

SAT. 2ND against CORRINGHAM & PEGASUS II

Saff's boys recorded their first win of the season, despite only setting 160 all out, Clarky top scoring with 38. However Corringham & Pegasus II's were never in the running, thanks largely to a vibrant fielding display and very tight bowling from the whole attack, finishing 124 all out.

SAT. 3RD against GREAT TOTHAM

The three's visited Gt. Totham with their inspirational leader (Russ!) back from his honeymoon. It obviously made a huge impact with our boys, rattling up 206-8, Pieman top scoring with 66.

In reply Totham were all out for 181, Chalky and Martin Southwell taking three and four respectively.

SAT 4TH against BROOKWEALD

Brookweald visited Corra and notched up 178-6. With the skipper rushed to hospital with a broken nail, the fourth team crumbled to 127 all out, only Bob Howell with 58 contributed.

SAT. 22 MAY

SAT. 1ST against HIGH RODING

Our first match at the Corra and finally a strong first team would change our fortunes after an indifferent start, however last years champions( and this years) High Roding had other ideas!

Once again we were skittled, for 115 all out, and they knocked them off for the loss of one wicket 117-1

SAT. 2ND against WOODHAM MORTIMER

After winning the toss and electing to field, Springfield put another solid performance, with excellent opening spells from Ben Marrion and Peter Frost. Then high pressure bowling from Dave Howell, Andy Barret and especially James Howarth meant wickets tumbled at the end.

In reply, after losing two wickets, repair work from Adam Radford and James Latimer, put Springfield in a strong position and great support from Howey and Bifta allowed the skipper to hit the winning runs.

SAT 3RD against MARCONI

Russ elected to bat on a warm day, and thanks to a patient 71 not out from Martin Southwell and a thumping 88 from Neil Kennedy the 3rd's posted 224.

Despite Marconi starting well, good spells from Arain and Chalky at the death saw them home 210-8

SAT.4TH against CHIGNAL

Chignal batted first and although Mahmood bowled well 3-26, they rattled up 206-9. The 4th's were never in the running, only TJ with 41 showing any resistance as we scored 127 all out.

SAT. 29 MAY

SAT. 1ST against GALLEYWOOD

We traveled to Slades Lane, to take on newly promoted Galleywood, still missing a number of first team regulars. Curtz won the toss and batted, the skip smashed 73, I finally weighed in with 114 n.o. and James Latimer showed maturity beyond his years with a quick 38 setting them 254-4.

Despite Pugs and Wordy keeping it tight at the start, dropped catches combined with a fairly useful South African (157 off 95 balls) saw them home comfortably 255-2, leaving us rock bottom.

SAT.2ND against TERLING

The Super 2's continue to light up Division 3 after another comfortable win at the Corra. Peter Frost 3-37 and Mortz 4-47 were the chief destroyers of the visitors, whipping them out for 174.

Mortz rolled back the years, smashing 108 n.o. thus helping Saff's army to comfortable 5 wicket win 175-5.

SAT. 3RD against MARGARETTING

The 3's batted first against Margaretting and totaled 181-7, Mark Hudson scoring his maiden 50 and Martin scoring 60. However this was never going to be enough and although S. Arain again bowled well 3-27, Margaretting strolled home of just 27 overs 183-3

SAT.4TH against BOREHAM

The 4's got back to winning ways, posting 240-2 against Boreham. Bob Howell 115 was the mainstay, with George Owers contributing 62.

At 92-2 Boreham looked in with a shout until a devastating spell of 4.1 overs, 6 for 8 runs from TJ finished the game in style 151-10

SUN. 30 MAY

SUN 1ST  against NETTLESWELL & BURNT MILL

The Sunday 1's season got off to a good start, N & BM were kept to 138-7 (the skipper confirming himself as a genuine (declaration) allrounder took 2-26), before Latimer smashed an unbeaten 75 to steer us home 141-2

SAT. 5 JUNE

SAT.1ST against GREAT BURSTEAD

On a sticky day at the Corra we finally broke our duck for the season. Despite a very slack early fielding display (seven catches went down), all our bowlers settled down into good spells. The outstanding performance coming from Scotty (3-38), although Pugs was unlucky not to have had a hatfull in keeping Gt Burstead down to 173-7.

We again lost early wickets and at 32-3 looked in trouble, but a good partnership of 60 between Lats (27) and Jim (41) put us back in control. However another middle order collapse left us needing 40 with just 3 wickets remaining. Moony (30 n.o.) managed to keep his head and with the help of Howey (10 n.o.) saw is home with 3 balls to spare 174-7.

SAT 2ND against HIGH EASTER

The 2's got off to a great start putting on 123 for the first wicket, Lighters going first (63). Richie continued on for a well crafted 106 with 20 odd contributions from AB, Sherv's and Stormy to reach 258-6.

This was too much for Good Easter, especially after a good opening spell from Frosty. Spin twins Flub (3) and Stormy (2) then wrapped up Good Easter for 119 all out.

SAT 3RD against FYFIELD

The 3's batted first against Fyfield side and although 7 batsman got starts, nobody could take it on to a big score as we were bowled out for 172. Fyfield then wrapped it up in 33 overs (173-0)

Despite this 10 wicket demolition, Jonesy managed to convince himself (if nobody else), this was one of their best bowling and fielding displays of the season!

SAT. 4TH against RANKINS

The 4's continued their climb up the table with a magnificent 58 run victory over top pf the table Rankins. Our boys batted first and posted 201-9, Colin Lewis smashing a 29 ball 56 and the senior Shorty making a cultured 45.

Young Mahmood again kept it tight at the start, with Patters the best of the rest (3-19), Rankins finishing on 143 all out.

SAT. 12 JUNE

SAT 1ST against HATFIELD PEVEREL

A heavy shower before the start, reduced the match away at Hatfield Peverel to 40 overs, and with Curtz again losing the toss, we were inserted. This proved to be a blessing as we rattled up 282-7 on a good batting wicket, the skipper smashing a superb 107, Lats hitting his first of (many) Premier Fifty and with myself 40 and Chigs 32* giving decent support.

Despite Wardy and Fozzy picking up an early wicket a piece Peverel also batted well. As the match reached its conclusion it began to look as if we were going to be tens runs short until Scotty took a towering catch on the boundary to turn the match our way and Fozzy Bowled the final over, only conceding 5 runs, leaving us victorious by just 7 runs 275-7.

SAT. 2ND against RAYNE

With Bentley II's losing, the two's had a chance against Rayne to move up into the promotion places. Our visitors batted first and were restricted to 195-6, Flub and Widge picking up two wickets a piece.

In reply dashing innings from Lighters 86*, Richie 32 and Mortz 64, saw us home comfortably in the 27th over 199-2. This was the 2nd teams fifth win in a row, and move them up to second place.

SAT. 3RD against BROOKWEALD

The threes visited Brookweald and despite what can only be described as a very poor showing at the start of the innings, managed to post 199-8 thanks mainly to a cracking 83 from Chris O'Riodan.

However this was not enough, as one of Brookweald's openers smashed 130* and saw them home to an eight wicket win in the 35 over.

SAT.4TH against WRITTLE

The fourth team racked up another win, this time against Writtle. We batted first and with G. Owers and Shorty hitting 53 and 61 respectively, set up the chance of a big score. Four wickets for five runs slowed the progress until TJ whacked 41* to see us up to 207.

Andy Wordley, playing his first game of the season ripped through the Writtle batting with 6-37, Ian Gregory also took three wickets to bowl them out for 152.

SAT.5TH against BELHUS

The fifth team made their debut with a friendly against Belhus. Old man Shervill lead his team of sprogs over to Admirals and restricted Belhus to 136-8, Matt Rolfe taking three wickets and Aaron King taking 4-8.

Mark Hudson top scored with 29 as the fifth's rattled up 138-4 to record their first victory.

SAT.18 JUNE

SAT 1ST against BURNHAM

We won the toss and had no hesitation in batting against fellow strugglers Burnham, at the Corra. Despite losing Scotty early, Curtz set about the oppo's attack, smashing 46 and with myself adding 84, we were firmly in control. A few middle order wickets fell quickly, but we were still able to post 251 all out, thanks largely, to a quickfire 41 from Fozzy.

Good opening spells from Pugs and Wardy (2-32) put Burnham well behind the rate, and with Scotty (3-51) and Fozzy (2-55) taking wickets at regular intervals, we ran out winners by 48 runs (Burnham 203-8)

SAT.2ND against BLUEHOUSE

The two's again ran out winners, away at Bluehouse, but were made to work alot harder for it, than in recent weeks. Bifta (4-33) and Flub (3-38) were the chief destroyers in the oppo's 167-9.

Lighters got the innings of to a good start with 35, but the rest of the top order struggled. Adam Radford finally settled any nerves with a match-winning 57 not out, (168-7). Which leaves us in second place and a game clear of Bentley in third.

SAT. 3RD against FOULNESS

Russ's team kept Foulness down to 191-6, Ben Marrion the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 32 off 12.

Martin Southwell carried his bat for 97 to see us home by 5 wickets with 2 overs remaining (192-5).

SAT 4TH against BLUEHOUSE III

The fourth team kept up the run of form and are now only 4 points of the top after beating Bluehouse. We batted first and set a daunting 218-3. Bob Howell hitting 65 and youngster Nasir Afzad smashing 80 not out.

Ian Gregory then steamed in to take 5-18 and bowl Bluehouse out for just 94-10.

SAT. 5TH against ST. CLEMENTS

The fifth team lost this week to St Clements, (280-7) Chris Frost bowling 2-10.

Springfield were all out for 142, Tim Clancy 41 not out, and Andy Frost 25.

SAT. 26 JUNE

SAT 1ST against SOUTH WEALD

Our revival came to a shuddering halt on Saturday due to a very poor batting performance, which saw South Weald skittle us out for 76. Although chasing only a small target Weald started badly as a good spell from Scotty (2-24) saw them slip to 17-3. However we never had enough runs and Weald got home in 20 overs (78-3).

SAT 2ND against HOCKLEY

The 2nd tem hosted league leaders at the Corra and batted first. Lighters in the runs again with 41, but the rest of the top and middle order threw their wickets away. A true captains knock of 50 from Saff, got us to 190 all out. The match was in the balance all through Hockley's innings but wickets kept falling and in the end the pressure was too much as we run out winners by 30 runs (160 all out).

SAT 3RD against GREAT WAKERING

The 3rds put together back to back wins after skittling Gt Wakering out for 113, Andy was the pick of the bowlers with 4-23. In reply Mark (HP) Hudson 41no and Dancey 43 saw us home to an easy win (118-4).

SAT 4TH against WILLOW HERBS

The 4th team kept the pressure on at the top after beating fellow promotion chasers Willow Herbs. Chalky starred with the ball (5-27 off 11 overs) as we knocked them over for 165. In reply two of the elders John Symonds 52 and Colin Short 77 saw us to victory as we made 168-3.

SAT 5TH against LIBERTY CASUALS

The 5th team played their 3rd game and notched their 2nd win against Liberty Casuals. In a time game Casuals scored 176- 8. Tyler (3-28), Rolfe (2-39) and King (2-30) all bowled well.
The 5ths replied with 178-5, led by J Welshman's 81.

SAT. 3 JULY

SAT I against BENTLEY

As we enter the second half of the season, we sit in a very dodgy position close to the bottom of the table, so victory against rivals Bentley would be essential at the Corra, Saturday.

Batting first, we again struggled and only a 54 run partnership between Fozzy and Moony for the seventh wicket gave us any respectability, helping us to 150 all out.
At teatime our visitors seemed confident, (claiming the Springfield attack was passed it!) but how wrong can you be? Wardy 3-31, Pugs 2-10 off9, Fozzy 1-32 off 12 and Scotty 3-35, bowled superbly and backed up by some stunning fielding (Lats 5 catches behind the stumps) we knocked Bentley off their perches bowling them out for just 122.

SAT II against BENTLEY II

The super seconds firmly established themselves n the promotion places with a very easy win over Bentley.

Bowling first we knocked over our hosts for just 142, Flub the star with 7-35.
In reply our innings started slowly but with wickets in hand was never really in doubt. Rudders hit himself back into form with 65* to complete a seven wicket win and a very satisfying double over Bentley!

SAT III against RETTENDON

The three's hosted Rettendon on Saturday and despite good spells from Dale Winton 2-39, and Russ 3-38 got put around the park for 233-7.

In reply we lost a hatful of early wickets and were never in the running eventually subsiding for 152.

SAT.IV against MOUNTNESSING

The fourths visited Mountnessing looking for a sixth straight victory

Bob Howell's 65 got us off to a solid start and with TJ smashing a quickfire 53 at the end, we managed to post a daunting 234-7.
Mountnessing set about the total in good fashion and set up a thrilling finish but with Chalky 2-31 off 10 and Ian Gregory 3-46 off 12 bowling well finished 4 runs short on 230-8.

SAT V against EPPING

The fifths lost a friendly against Epping, D. Rising 2-31 off 7 and T. Clancy 1-33 off 8, letting through 229-5.

We punched out for 180-10, J. Welshman 29, D. Rising 66.

SAT. 10 JULY

SAT I against AYTHORPE RODING

At Aythorpe, Dave won the toss and inserted them on a ground we have never won on. They amassed 283-6, where Ash was the pick of the bowlers with 3-60. Although the fielding display had been poor, the batting began to click with Jim (48) and then Lats (58) putting on good partnerships with Danny. We were in with a chance, but fading light and the fall of Chiggers for a brilliant 138 meant we fell short with 271-5.

SAT II against WRITTLE

At  the Cora the 2’s fielded and held Writtle to just 154-7, Widge 3-42 and AB 2-24 bowled well. Batting remained difficult and a stream of steady wickets placed Springfield at 86-8. Tom Sherv showed great maturity and with Flub (22) and then Widge (12*) got us level but then chopped on. A superb effort of 35 from Tom saw Springfield take 8 points for the tie after all had seemed lost.

SAT III against STOCK

The 3rd’s visited Stock and asked them to bat, they only managed 131 all out, after Ben Marrion had taken 5-28. Martin’s 66 * saw us home 134-3 and put the side back into mid table.

SAT IV against RAYNE

A good performance against third placed Rayne at the Cora maintained the 4ths position of 2nd in the league. Batting first Bob (70), Shorty ( 49) and TJ (31no) helped us to 207-5. Rayne lost wickets at regular intervals, with Ian Gregory (3-32) and TJ (3-13) we bowled them out for 165 to collect maximum points.

17 JULY

SAT I against PEGASUS & CORRINGHAM

Despite a torrential downpour at the Corra we were still able to get a 28 over game against fellow strugglers Pegasus & Corringham in what was a must win game. Dave won the toss and put them in and with some great bowling backed up by some awesome fielding we knocked them over for 128, Ash (4-28) and Wardy (3-41). Batting was still difficult after tea, but good knocks from Dave (56) and Jim (45) managed to see us home (129-3)with 3 overs to spare

SAT II against PEGASUS & CORRINGHAM

The 2nds visited Pegasus with a chance of going top for the first time this season after Hockleys match was rained off. Our hosts batted first in a rain reduced 36 over match and thanks mainly to 3 wickets each from Andy and Frosty bowled them out for 105. Wickets fell with regular batches in our reply but we bat all the way down these days with Dave and Andy seeing us home with a couple of wickets to spare (106-7). TOP OF THE LEAGUE.

SAT III against GREAT TOTHAM II

Another rain reduced match (30 overs) at the Corra as the 3rds batted first and made 178-5, Martin scoring 53no and a quickfire 47no from Russ doing the damage. The Gt Totham innings started badly thanks to a good spell of 4-14 off 8 by Shaheen, they were never in the running and were even totally bowled out for 79.

SAT IV against BROOKWEALD III

The run finally comes to an end after 7 wins in a row. Brookweald made 204-8 despite Colin Lewis taking 5-52 and Womble returning to form with 2-33 off 12 overs. In reply we stumbled to 21-4 and never recovered despite a fluent 40 from Afzaal. We were eventually skittled for 111, but never mind even the Aussies lose sometimes.

SAT 24 JULY

SAT I against HIGH RODING

We traveled to high flying High Roding Saturday and despite bowling and fielding pretty well in their first 20 overs, we let our standards slip and they punished us for 272-4.

Our reply started positively and at 65-1 off 11 overs we were well in the hunt, but three quick wickets ( two of them dodgy LBW's ) set us back. Moony 45 and Rudders 42 briefly got us back in with a chance, but we eventually subsided for 219 all out

SAT II against WOODHAM MORTIMER

A very strong second team welcomed Woodham Mortimer to the Corra Saturday and duly welted them round the park for 255-6, Dan Eley 68, Richie 55 and Stormy's quick fire 54 were major contributors.

In reply everyone took wickets in bowling Woodham out for 108, AB again the pick with 3-17.
This win takes Saff's boys to within just a couple of wins of the second division as they march on towards the title.

SAT III against MARCONI

The three's up and down season continued as they were undone at Marconi. Batting first our hosts totaled 209-6, Dancy bowled well with 2-41 off 10.

Our reply started slowly and with the pressure building, wickets started falling and even though Dancey completed a good day personally with 51 not out, we finished 30 runs adrift on 179 all out.

SAT IV against CHIGNAL

The fourth teams wobble continued at continued at home to third placed Chignal, who batted first and amassed 193-9, Andy Wordley and Ian Gregory picking up three wickets apiece.

In reply a constant flow of wickets cost us, as we finished up 187 all out (Afzaal 41).

SATURDAY FIRST TEAM

SAT. 31 JULY

SAT I against GALLEYWOOD

We batted 1st on a hot sunny day at the Corra, with Curtz continuing his form, hitting 63,  giving us a great start. Damo (94) and Scotty(37) found some form and with a final onslaught from Moony(34) and Rudders we managed to post 314-6.

The only thing that could be said about our fielding was 714-6 would not have been enough as Galleywood’s import (dropped on nought and many other times) smashed his way to the 2nd 150+ against us. Galleywood got home with an over to spare and 6 wickets in hand (318-4).

SAT  II against TERLING

Promotion chasing 2’s visited Terling and batting 1st struggled to a below par 196 all out, only Clarky (40) and Dom(inator) Fenton (72) contributing. In reply Terling’s openers put on over a hundred and despite Saff taking 3 quick wickets towards the end, our hosts got home comfortably (198-5).

SAT III against MARGARETTING

The 3rd team faced top of the table Margaretting and took a bit of a battering. Batting 1st we struggled to169 all out. In reply Margaretting (aided by Chelmsford’s 2nd’s ex captain), whacked their way to our total in 25 overs (170-4).

SAT IV against BOREHAM

The 3rd team visited Boreham and in another tight game prevailed by 3 runs to keep promotion hopes alive. Batting 1st we totaled 219-9, Chalky top scoring with 67. SAT 7 AUGUST

SAT I against GREAT BURSTEAD

At Hannikins Farm we played fellow strugglers Gt Burstead in a 52 point relegation battle. We were invited to bat 1st on a wicket which makes Perth look slow and low and thanks mainly to Jim (62) and Rudders (43) plus a quick 19 (Lats) and 21 (Fozzy) we posted 198-8. After tea Wardy bowled an explosive spell of chin music to reduce Burstead to 10-3. Although the middle order batted well, Fozzies 5-42 helped knock them out for 137.

SAT II against HIGH EASTER

The 2nds forgot last weeks mishap with a 304-7 at the Corra against High Easter, with Lighters (75), Mortz (66) and Dom (66 in only 30 balls) the stars of our innings. High Easter settled for batting points with 202-6, Frosty (2-43) and Flub (2-33) taking the bowling honours

SAT III against FYFIELD

The 3rds visited Fyfield and bowled well to keep them down to 199-10, especially with only 10 men (no NK). A very slow start gave us no chance of making it but Shaheen showed the others with a quickfire 29 NO as ended at 133 all out.

SAT IV against RANKINS

Rankins visited the Corra in a top of the table clash. We batted 1st and made 146 all out. Rankins got the runs (149-4) but Mahmood (1-15 off 10) and Chalky (1-19 off 9) made them bat for 42 overs.

SAT. 14 AUGUST

SAT I against HATFIELD PEVERAL

We batted first on a wet track at the Corra and with good opening spells from the Hatfield Peveral bowlers soon had us in trouble at 49-3. Good middle order knocks from Rudders (35) and Lats (37) pushed us up to a reasonable score of 176-9.

Peverals started well in reply but two fantastic spells of bowling from Fozzy (12 overs, two for nineteen) and Ash (12 overs, two for twenty nine) put us in control, until Springfield old boy Kirky decided to smash 50 in 24 balls winning the game with two overs to spare (177-5), leaving us deep in relegation mire.

SAT II against RAYNE

With Bentley losing, a win away at Rayne would give Saff's boys a well deserved promotion. Batting first we started well with Richie (50) and Rudders (34) putting on 61 for the first wicket. Clarky then added 34 and Luke Southwell smashed 32 to help set 216 all out.

Rayne started well, reaching 90-1, but then the Howell brothers blew the innings apart with Widge taking 5-35 and Flub 4-13 to leave Rayne 102 all out and Promotion to Div 2.

SAT III against BROOKWEALD

The third team hosted Brookweald Saturday and our opposition batted first scoring 220 all out. Russ and Martin Southwell picking up 3 and 4 wickets apiece.

In reply we started surprisingly positively with Dan Unger hitting 47. Afzaal Nasir then showed his potential smashing 70 to put us in control, but with the skies darkening and the Fred Lambert Stand packed, wickets started tumbling. At 200 for 8, the game looked gone, but Martin Southwell (47 not out) and Shaheen (6 not out) saw us home with a ball to spare 202-8.

SAT IV against WRITTLE

Promotion hopes were severely hurt, away at Writtle as we batted first and totaled only 165-8.

In reply Writtle cruised home with 166-3
