COLTS DAY JUNE 2003

HOME PAGE

What a fantastic day!
Despite a horrendous downpour first thing in the morning, the weather decided to be kind to the club, and the organisers were rewarded with a huge turnout of Colts, their families and many club members, who were able to enjoy fine weather and fine cricket.
Every Colt who came had a chance to bat and bowl either in the under 15's or under 11's matches, with the coaches endeavoring to keep the matches flowing. In the U11's games, it was particularly pleasing to see a number of new faces, including a handful of girls. Anybody who maintains that cricket is losing its popularity amongst children would quickly change their mind if they visited our Colts Day.
The U15's provided fine and competitive entertainment for their spectators and it was good to see so many teenagers playing to win, but very much within the spirit of the game.
The final match of the day saw the U15's challenge a selection of the senior 1st team players, led by Dave Curtis, Jimmy Symonds and Moonie, aided (supposedly!) by a few dads and a granddad. The result? suffice to say that experience won through.
Other highlights of the day included the presentation of Kwik Cricket Bronze Awards to some of our younger members, by coaches Brian O'Riordan and Peter Clancy. Chairman Trevor Johnson kindly presented all the Colts with a commemorative plaque. And then there was a Hog Roast.
Special thanks to the sponsors - the Veterans and Chris and Helen Clark. The organisers and coaches Ken Godridge, John Brett, John and Jimmy Symonds, Darren Saffill, Simon Moon, Patrick and Brian O'Riordan, Peter Clancy, Wayne Howell, Mike Owers, Tim Hancock and Clive Blanchard. All those that helped with umpiring and scoring. The pavilion secretary Bob. Helen and Sylvia for all the food. Jimmy, Darren, Patters and others for managing the bar. Darren and Wayne for manning the barbeque. The sponsors of the raffle prizes, especially Chris and Helen of Reelstone Property Management for their generous array of prizes and John Brett for trying to sell more tickets than the National Lotto.
A big thank you to Ken Godridge and John Brett who worked tirelessly in organising the day and final thanks goes to all the youngsters who turned out and made Colts Day a very special day, and a huge success! We are looking forward to 2004.
